Kaleidoscope Canes and Beads

I have recently been working on some intricate kaleidoscope canes, inspired by great polymer clay artists like Carol Simmons and Sarah Shriver.

The kaleidoscopes all begin with a set of 6 or seven canes. I put these together to form 3 different kaleidoscopes and then each of these 3 are split down into 3 different canes. This all means that I get 18 different designs in total, 2 from each of the 9 canes. See what you think.

Morning Breeze -  Canes and Beads.

These canes are then put together to make lentil shaped beads, with a different design on each side.

The beads are about 3 1/2 cm in diameter and 1 1/2cm high. The 2mm holes run through the centre.

Autumn Hints - Canes and Beads

These canes are also put together to make lentil beads with a different design on each side.

The faux turquoise in this necklace is made completley from clay and has 5 large beads, 3 of which have canework designs appliqued to them, and 12 round beads. The gold interspacing beads are gold plated metal.

Nicola's Bracelet.

This bracelet was made for my sister, Nicola, and has 8 focal beads of matching design in an elasticated band. Each bead is unique.

Susan's Necklace

This stunning necklace was created by Susan Bates from a beading design by Maggie Roschyk featured in issue 97 (June 2010) of the Bead and Button magazine. Susan saw the design and thought one of my beads would suit as the focal bead. The result was this beautiful necklace which she showed me at The Bead Scene one day.

I was totally blown away.

Thank you so much Susan. I hope other people think it looks as fabulous as I do.

Red Berry Necklace

This ongoing series of berry necklaces were inspired by the autumn hedgerows which caught my attaention whilst walking the dogs in my local countryside. Especialy on a crisp morning the berries shone through the autumnal leaves and I carried a few home to see how to replicate their essence in clay. The leaves were cast using examples from my garden.

Emperor Berry Necklace

With these glowing purples it has to be the emperor necklace. I added a fringe of beadwork under the clay blackberries to add to the layered effect.

Polymer Clay Heart Pendants

These clay hearts are made from mainly kaleidescope designs, often a very simple 2 tone colour cane manipulated to make a hopefully, pleasing, design.

They are currently on sale at The Stani Gallery for £10 each. There are also matching earrings at £5 per pair.

Tassels

These hand made tassells have been topped with a polymer clay cap. They can be used for many things, tie backs, cord pulls, as well as incorporated into necklaces.

 Faux Lampwork Beads

These beads are made using coloured liquid clay layered onto clay beads to create a faux lampwork effect. Fun to do, but time consuming, it is only when you touch them you realise they are not actually made of glass.
